The best methods I've found thus far for Linux/BSD include:
1. Linux magazines (online & print)
2. Linux/BSD news (about new technology).
3. Linux/BSD groups

Everything I learn that's I believe would be hard to remember I document. Documentation is key not only in business but also in a personal environment.

I personally, keep a DOCS directory in my home directory, where I keep basic text files with information documenting simple tech tips that I find useful but realistically won't be able to remember.
