I don't think this is going to hurt desktop and server Linux at all, here
are a couple of reasons why, One your still going to have to buy an Apple
computer to run OSX, OSX wont just run on any computer, so dell and hp and
gateway aren't going to really have to worry about their market share and no
one has said what the new price points for the new cpu's will be. in
addition to this, OSX still isn't open source, so it limits what people
using Linux and *BSD want to do with it. The way I see it is, that in the
two year period of transition between the PPC going to Intel and longhorn
being delayed, Linux should try and convert as many as possible, no one is
really going to buy Apples current hardware knowing that its old hardware
and might not get supported after two or three years, so that leaves them
with buying a Wintel box, and those that are fed up with Windows looking to
make that switch are naturally going to go towards Linux, so if we do our
jobs right, Linux we actually be even more popular than it ever was. Plus
there are some really great projects coming out of the Linux camp.
