As far as I can tell, IBM's first "laptop" * did this with hardware,
the ram and ram controller were never turned off, you turn the box
off and when you turn it back on it resumed unchanged in any way,
exactly like my palm one "lifedrive" PDA. What's new?
Designing with flash memory instead of static memory (extremely
slow) would accomplish the same thing.
* I borrowed a friend's for a week 10 or 15 years ago, it had no HD,
just two 3.5" floppy drives. It was too heavy for anyone's lap.
