Detailed Description : The position is accountable for creating virtual
LINUX servers under the z/VM OS for the consolidation of distributed
(intel) based LINUX workloads. This position is responsible for
implementing and testing the base operating system and its initial
setup; working with the SA team to diagnose and correct OS defects.
During times of system stress, this position is responsible for
identifying the cause of the problem and taking immediate action steps
toward relieving or eliminating them. Documentation must be collected
for review by upper management. Client questions and problems must be
addressed expeditiously. This position is responsible for performing the
steps to ensure that each system that is IPLed is tested using health
checks developed by the position itself. Any failures must be corrected
or brought to the attention of upper management immediately. The C&R
environment is maintained by this position with respect to DASD
synchronization, the complete IPL process including health checks, and
system problem management. New technologies, data center initiatives,
and configuration changes are also conducted by this position.
Job Requirements :
The position requires:
* Extensive technical knowledge of the z/VM mainframe operating
system as well as an extensive knowledge of LINUX running under Z/VM.
* LINUX line commands and vi editor
* Requires knowledge of RPM to facilitate the installation and
auditing of software changes as well as knowledge of standard IBM
utilities
* IPL process;\
* OS and vendor software problem diagnosis
* Understanding of messages and error codes
* CMS; XEDIT
* Z/OS skills are a plus as this position could also provide
bridge support to the Z/OS team. Assembler language; SMP/e; IODF; TSO/e;
ISPF, etc.
* Good communication skills both oral and written; ability to
modify instructions as situations require; motivate others; make
decisions expeditiously; achieve results; possess an understanding of
the business and the operating environment upon which it relies.
* Must be able to execute changes and or apply problem resolution
steps in a timely fashion and be able to diagnose problems equally as
fast; must assume ownership of problems and follow through to complete
resolution. Must be a team player.
* College degree preferable but not required.
