I am in the process of drafting a charter for Flalug.
I welcome any ideas. Basically, after it is drafted, we will have meeting,
elect our first officers, and proceed from there.
One important point to get consensus on is voting methods.
Those who don't know anything about the subject would be surprised to learn that
the choice of voting method can determine which candidate wins, particularly in
a race of three or more candidates. While I do not claim to be erudite in the
subject, I can claim to know more about this than most folks.
I propose that for races involving two or more candidates, we use Range Voting,
with a range of 0 to 3 points, candidate with the highest tally wins:
0 - unacceptable
1 - indifferent
2 - mild support
3 - strong support
For a race with just one candidate, we use Approval Voting, where the candidate
needs a majority quota of approval to win.
I suggest our officers have the following titles:
Chairman - the executive of Flalug
vice-Chairman - normally assists the Chairman, abnormally acts as Chairman
Treasurer - in charge of protecting assets, collecting contributions, and paying
expenses.
Secretary - records minutes of meetings and other administrative duties.
Note that there may be some double hatting at this stage.
