Hmmm, well...to get over my windows addiction I set up my system as a
quad boot....win98. XPSP2, debian, and RH9

I've been using this for a few months....

The RH9 installer broke everything in the bootloader when I was setting
this all up...inc;uded the two windows installs...the order of
installation was , win98,XP, debian, rh9...

Corrected it with a change of install order...win98.xp,rh9, debian...

RH9 hated my vortex-1 au8820 based soundcard....installed OSS which gave
me sound, but sounds like crap!...lol

The debian installer never installed X-windows but did install
openoffice?...lol...

After much reading I finally figured out how to use apt-get and
installed x-windows, then KDE3.3, Firefox, Thunderbird....but I'm still
ost on exactl;y what aptitude does as half the time it refuses to
install anything?

Debian recognized the soundcard right off the bat....installed
XMMS...now I can listen to my fav mp3-based streams....

So I got the desktop up, sound, browser of choice, email of choice...

All in all I think I've finally got a system I could dump windows for
eventually...

The only reason I feel like sharing this is that it has taken me two
years to get to this point!...LOL And finally I think I can make the
switch permanently...

I must say one must be very determined to switch to stick with it this
long which explains to me why Linux has not made the in roads on the
desktop everyone hopes for...

But with IBM declaring the future of Linux is the desktop, and looking
at KDE 3.5 and 4, then gnome 2.8 package....I think it will get there
eventually...and so will I...

So, what does everyone use for RSS reading?

TIA Chris in SP
