I replaced my Soundblaster Live! 5.1 with a different one just like it
(actually I moved it from the bottom slot to the one above that too), and
now there's a hiss + 60 Hz hum in the speakers I hadn't noticed before.
Troubleshooting:
It's unaffected by the mixer's "Master" slider, so it's not because one of
the inputs is noisy.
I disconnected the speakers from the card, no noise. So it's from the card,
not the speakers.
I unloaded the driver modules, still noisy. So it's the hardware causing
it, not the software.
I didn't try going to the BIOS to see if it's Linux _itself_ that causes the
noise, but I suspect that if the card's hot, it's noisy.
Suggested solutions:
Wrap the card with insulated foil/conductive shielding? Upgrade the PS?
Move the card away from other cards? Deal with it, because nothing works?
