The solution in the article isn't as cheap as stated. First, muffin fans cost
$5 to $7. Second, running the fan 24/7 has a definite cost, eventually
outstripping the $35.00 you spend on a heatsink type device. The heatsink
device has two tiny fans, but I doubt they use nearly the electricity of the
80mm fan.

The other thing is this. Much of the bottom of a hard disk is the circuit
board, which blocks air access to the metal parts. Heat sink type devices
have intimate contact with the metal case of the hard disk.
