Size alone would not qualify Orlando for multiple LUGs. If it were only size,
one LUG would work just fine. The four LUGs are a result of specialization,
and are made possible by the low entry cost for creating a LUG.
The same could probably be said for Tampa. From what I've read, the reason for
FlaLUG is NOT geographic convenience for its members -- but instead to
provide a certain environment/culture for its members.
The synergy and critical mass are much more important in an installfest than
in an infomeeting, because installfests are peer to peer, not presenter to
audience. GoLUG has had some mighty small infomeetings that were highly
praised by the attendees, whose questions got more personal attention than
they would have at a 20+ meeting.
I wish we had more people at our installfests, so we could all ask each other
more questions. My wish will soon be granted -- our installfests seem to be
growing every month.
