I believe Rapid Systems is the system where they install a
small microwave antenna on your roof and you get the
signal from a device similar to a cell tower. At least one
unit in my townhome complex has one installed. It's
good because here, we are outside the approx, 18 kilofoot
wireline copper-pair limitation of true DSL so it's not
available here.
I'd like to get one just to have (1) as a backup and (2) to
run my throughput measuring tools on, to model internet
behavior etc. Everything I want to do costs money, though.
I tried that from here with my cable modem, to a dialup,
it was 22 hops but the dialup was way too slow to be useful.
What was interesting was that the return path went
through Dallas, and the forward path went through
Mae-EAST and Chicago. I'd like to research how often
that really happens. You need both ends of the link at
the same place to test that usefully.
Science costs money (did I already say that?)

PS - why down on the Big Vee?
PPS I was here the day the Rapid Systems truck was
doing the install for the neighbor, so I knew just
what it was. Turns out the franchise owner was one of the
installers. Turns out he was at that previous year's
DefCON in Vegas! An interesting guy.
