1. I think that doing one distro per issue is probably not a great
idea. That'll mostly just guarantee that most potential readers won't
want most issues. There should probably be two or three columns in
every issue that address matters of importance to people that are just
now, today, getting started, and don't know where to begin, and the rest
should just be good beginner-level tutorials and collections of
information, with the occasional bit of anecdotal recounting of
experiences, and some reviews at the beginner level. This sort of thing
is especially important considering that you're likely to want to appeal
as well to more-experienced users who need some newbie-level information
in certain areas with which they're not yet familiar.
2. I rather think that voting on a name is probably a bad idea.
Projects by consensus fail, in the long run. No, this isn't a comment
on open source: that's not a project by consensus at all. True open
source projects are maintained by a central authority and improved by
submission of new ideas that are fixed up through peer review. Open
source projects, in short, are the truest meritocracy. So, go with an
open source project or go with a project with clear leadership, but
don't try to create a project by consensus, which will only guarantee an
end product that is generated by compromise of the lowest common
denominator of quality.
3. I'd like to be involved if I can somehow get paid. Heh.
