That is only one of many things ncftp does. I don't think there is any
comparison in the exception that you have to download and install ncftp from
rpm or build it. It also has some bookmark function to it for commonly used
sites. I haven't used it and so don't know if it will remember logins or
how it works exactly. Maybe it remembers subfolders commonly accessed.
Anyway, I highly recommend you look at it if you haven't before.

You can make regular /bin/ftp do that for you too. Add this to ~/.netrc:
