You are looking to find out if faxgetty is running. Do ps aux and see if it
is. If not that is what you need to be up. It is what listens for
incomming calls and directs the calls to HylaFAX. If I have some time
later, I will look up to see where it is started. From man faxgetty it
states it is usually started by init.

Actually, I've run faxaddmodem, as well as faxsetup, and I've set all of
the preferences in susefax as well -- and when I run the graphical
susefax client's status report, it shows everything as running fine.
When I check running processes, it shows hylafax as being active.
Everything acts as though it is working . . . except that the server
won't answer the telephone on an incoming fax.
