Recently purchased the Neuros player (www.neurosaudio.com). They just
had a big price drop to $199 for the 20 gig player. Aside from the
upcoming Rio player, it appears to be the only one out there that has
ogg support. The player should be arriving in a few days. I have been
making sure everything on my Mandrake 9.1 system is ready.
The application that would make this run on my Mandrake desktop is the
Neuros Database Manipulator - NDBM (www.neurosdbm.sourceforge.net). The
NDBM needs Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4.1. Going to the
Sun web page, I downloaded the RPM self-extracting file for Java and put
it into GnoRPM. I assume it installed.
After doing a search, it looks like a file, /user/java/j2re1.4.1_05, was
created. Knowing very little about Java, I want to figure out a way to
test it out. Copying what I assume is the Java plug in,
libjavaplugin_oji.so, from one of the Java plug in folders. They have
three different folders listed: ns4, ns600, and ns610. I put a shortcut
to the plug in on the plug in file in my MozillaFirebird. Going to
www.javaboutique.internet.com, I try to see if the Java is working
properly. When I try to run any Java applets, the page offers to run a
Java 1.3 plug in from Netscape
(http://wp.netscape.com/plugins/jvm.html). That would not really help me
because I need to have 1.4. Could anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ken
