[flalug] Serial Port Troubles

Hello all,

I'm trying to use my Palm Pilot with my HP Pavilion N5150 laptop, but
there's no communication between the 2 devices. I'm running RH9 (2.4.20-19.9
kernel) with XD2 and Ximian Evolution 1.4. Here's what I've done (or tried
to do) so far:

First, connected the cradle to the serial port. Then chmod a+wrx /dev/ttys0
as su. Next, made ln -s /dev/ttsy0 /dev/pilot. Ran gpilot (through
Evolution's wizard), specified the device as /dev/pilot (also tried as
/dev/ttys0), serial port, 57,600. Made sure the Palm was set to HotSync on
direct serial at 57,600. Pressed the HotSync button on the cradle and the
Palm times out, giving me the error message that it couldn't establish
communication with the PC. Meanwhile, Evolution just sits there and never
times out, never does anything.

Rebooted into BIOS and noticed that the serial port was config'd manually to
3F8 and IRQ 4, so set it to AUTO to see if Linux could PnP it. Booted into
Linux. Boot process says /dev/ttys0 is at 3E8 and IRQ 4, so looks like PnP
worked. Logged into XD2 and tried to run gpilot again. Same results as
above. Dropped to term as su and tried setserial -g /dev/ttys0 to check the
settings and I get: /dev/ttys0: Input/Output error.

I know the hardware is good, because I can use Palm Desktop under Windows to
sync just fine.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm fairly new to Linux, so I could be missing
something obvious. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Steve
